Recycled Rainbow Theme for 2010: Deception?

The theme for Recycled Rainbow 2010 is: "Deception?" (the question-mark is deliberate)

"Deception?" has multiple meanings we encourage you to thematically explore. We deliberately posed it as a question, as deception always is, and always isn't. Is truth merely perception? How does one discern fact from fiction? Friend from foe? Ally from terrorist? Deception is natural, but not always predictable?

Consider the chameleon blending into its surroundings for survival, or the grasshoppers/crickets you almost always hear, but almost never see, or the 300+ variants of phasmids (stick-bugs) which change their pigmentation to match their surroundings. Humans were not the first to use camouflage. Even plants will sometimes hide other plants from insects, or deceptively make themselves smell like stressed bees to attract bee-eating hornets to get pollinated (is there nothing an orchid won't do in order to get laid? Assholes!)

Sometimes blue-jays impersonate hawks when swooping down to get food, chasing all the other birds away who are convinced a much larger more menacing bird is about to kill them.

It's not just about magic & illusion & prank. Sometimes the deception we perceive is self-deception. What you see is not always what you get, but sometimes it is, though you think it isn't.It isn't?

Artistically take this in whatever direction you wish.

Medeical skills very much needed

SHOUT OUT to all medical personnel within the reach of my virtual voice!

We're looking for help with the ESD (Emergency Services Department) @ this year's Recycled Rainbow. Just looking for people to take shifts playing the role of medic, which may involve putting on band-aids, treating burn wounds, fixing scrapes or bruises. Anything major would require us to call an ambulance or one of us would drive the wounded person to the hospital. We need two more medics to fulfill our needs (you don't have to be an MD or a paramedic or an RN, but if you got SOME medical credentials, give us a holler.)

Dates for this event are: Sept 24th-27th (Thursday-Sunday)

Location: East Rochester, OH (near Minerva, Canton, Akron ... nearly a 2 hour drive from Cleveland.)

Even if you can't do this, perhaps you know someone who would be able to? We only have 2 medics, and our goal was to have 6.

It's been suggested that I post here, so here I am!

Please contact me if interested or if you know someone who is, email me at this address everyman@colorforms.net

Urgent message from Javamama (Volunteer Coordinator):

Okay, it's that time again. Recycled Rainbow Elevation is only 6 weeks away. As Volunteer Bitch, I mean Witch, I'm here to get on your case. You know you want to volunteer!

What could be better than to weild the power of a Greeter (paddles and cat o' nine tails anyone?).

Find out what it's like to be the troll under the bridge, I mean to be a Gate Keeper.

Are you a caring, gentle, nurting person who has first aid knowledge or more? You could volunteer with the Emergency Services Department. Being caring, gentle and nurturing are not prerequisites but they are nice if you're patching up somebody's boo boos.

Ever wanted to be a law enforcement officer? Well, you could be a Ranger. Even if you didn't want to in law enforcement you could be a Ranger. Rangers are not the police but they do help to "keep things running smoothly and lightly", to quote Camp Daddy our Ranger Team Lead.

Earth Guardians are looking for a few good burners. The only requirement is a desire to ensure that no trace is left when we leave. Help educate everyone to the "Leave No Trace" mantra. Be aware and pick up moop wherever you see it.

There are many other ways that you can help to create Recycled Rainbow Elevation. Let me know if you would like to roll up your sleeves and participate. Everybody knows that volunteers have more fun!

'Inland Hurricane' hits S. IL, report a week late...

On 08 May 09 Friday, about~2:30 or so in the afternoon, Williamson and Jackson counties in southern IL were hit by what the NWS labeled an "Inland Hurricane". It was of short duration, probably not more than a half hour or so (I was NOT keeping track, lol). The airport @ Carbondale reported gusts to 106 MPH.
I'm OK. Car unhurt as well.
The power grid went down due to the zillions of trees falling on lines (see my blog). About the only thing that went right was the weather after the storm- warm and calm.
The roads are almost entirely open as I write now, the power restored by crews from out-of-state.

A friend of mine who is dying of terminal brain cancer is trying to get in contact with some proponents of medical marijuana in Indiana. I said that Indiana is not especially friendly to medical marijuana activism but that I would ask around anyway. What is it like out there? Is it difficult to obtain? Is it a no tolerance state?

It's that time again folks! We're asking for volunteers to help make
Scorched Nuts: Rebirth the best one yet. To do that we need you!
There are many ways, great and small, to Participate. You can
volunteer with one of our volunteer teams, from Medics to Earth
Guardians, and give a few hours of your time to making our
infrastructure run smoothly.

For more event info, check out our website at:
http://www.scorchednuts.org

Gate needs YOU!
With the change in venue has come changes in gate. This year's gate
will be even more interactive than ever before! Be sure to be there
for all the fun and antics by joining the gate team today! You'll be
the first to see everyone as they enter into our fair 'city'. Gate is
looking for at least three people to fill each shift, so get a group
together to sign-up and man the gates! It's a favorite way for many
to participate.
The gate will be open:
Thursday, June 11th from 2pm to 10pm
Friday, June 12th from 10am to 10pm
Saturday, June 13th from 10am to 10pm.
Send an e-mail to gate@scorchednuts.org to help fill a shift.

Medic needs more volunteers!
Medic team is a needed and valued volunteer team at our event. To
volunteer all you need is to know basic First Aid and CPR, however, if
you're a First Responder, EMT, Fireperson, Nurse, Doctor, and/or
certified in First Aid/CPR and good in a medical crisis then we're
imploring you to take a shift. Medic team is needed around the clock,
but more so during 'peak' hours. Medic team needs YOUR help.
Send an e-mail to medic@scorchednuts.org

Rangers could use a few good folks!
Rangers are the mediators and 'security' at our event. If you're good
in crisis situations, putting drunks to bed, helping people, and
keeping an eye out for others, then this might be the team you're
looking for. It's a great way to meet people as you walk the grounds
and to be an integral part of many participants experience of our
event.
Send an e-mail to rangers@scorchednuts.org

DPW makes the city!
DPW or Department of Public Works, is a dedicated group of individuals
who come in before the effigy goes up and the camps come in, to set up
infrastructure and layout for the event. With all that hard work
comes some mad props and knowing that you helped create an experience
the participants won't forget.
Send an e-mail to dpw@scorchednuts.org

EarthGuardians needs a few good hands!
Let's make sure everyone understands our commitment to protecting the
land by LEAVING NO TRACE. Fully participate by not leaving something

Cross Post - Theme for Recycled Rainbow 2009:Elevation

Elevation is Recycled Rainbow’s theme for 2009, encouraging our participants to rise above their limitations, capabilities, and complacency towards boundless levels of creativity once thought too high to reach.

To reach Recycled Rainbow, travel to East Rochester, Ohio which is over 430 feet above Cleveland’s elevation. When you’re finally home, go far beyond the entrance, up and up, further than the ponds slipping far beneath you, outward passed all the grassy hills and trees, reaching for the sky, beyond and above the tree tops now behind you, forget about them, upward you go, to the biggest most elevated patch of the campground, already inspiring an upward sensibility, outward thinking, beyond your comfort zone, further than familiarity. You are at Recycled Rainbow … welcome home!

“Our elevation must be the result of self-efforts and work of our own hands. No other human power can accomplish it. If we but determine it shall be so, it will be so.” - Martin Delany (the first African American field officer in the United States Army during the Civil War. )

Elevation denies the default, like steam evaporating from water in nature, your consciousness raises upwards toward unexplored perception, ideas leap outward from your curious mind, beyond the barriers of your personal inhibitions, and further than your body allows.

Elevation denotes more than movement. It is uplifting, never looking down. Encouraging: to manifest into reality that which was previously imagined. Refreshing: having something new to share created by you.

If you can do your own lifting, you are lifting others as the higher elevation lifts us all.

“The human soul, as a part of the movement of life, is endowed with the ability to participate in the uplift, elevation, perfection, and completion. ” - Alfred Adler (a 19th century Austrian psychologist who was one of the three founders of depth psychology)

Creation requires elevation!

Upward, outward, beyond, and further….

Hello folks! Today I'm bringing you a way to help out those who are a little less fortunate than you may find yourself this day. A friend and fellow burner (Beth, the gal at the end of this e-mail...she SO rocks) works for The Campbell County Neighborhood Center of Northern Kentucky Community Action Commission and they've been trying out something new. They've changed their pantry to include more options, healthier food choices, and are looking to offer even MORE choices with some help. They're even starting up a series of classes that cover real-life skills, such as sewing, cooking, budgeting, and more. They rely on donations of all sorts, from the drop off to the monetary.

I'd also like to remind those no where near Kentucky (though you can always help from afar) that there are pantries similar to this one across the country helping those that need that little extra boost to make it by and that it's donations from people like us, that can make a HUGE difference in someone else's life. Every little bit helps.

Read more below, visit their site to make a donation, or to see what they've got going on. I think that they're on to something down there in Campbell County!

><><><><><><><><><><><><><

The food pantry at the Campbell County Neighborhood Center of Northern Kentucky Community Action Commission (www.nkcac.org) has undergone an amazing transformation. Over the last year, the pantry has changed from a traditional pantry to a client choice model based off of the food pyramid (www.mypyramid.gov).

As the Rainbow of Choice pantry, we are dedicated to helping our families become and stay healthy and self-reliant. On their first visit to the pantry, our families are given lots of healthy and easy recipes that they can make from the food we can provide. Also on the first visit (and at any other time it is requested), we have a one-on-one personalized nutritional counseling session with our families.

In addition to the changes with our pantry, we are also starting a new and revolutionary series of budgeting classes. For many families, it is hard to sit with a stranger and talk about debt, money, budgeting, and other personal matters. Instead of this, we have begun to plan Practical Budgeting. Practical Budgeting will be a series of classes based around real-life skills that help to lower bills and make a family more self-reliant. The classes are on cooking (with the help of a dietetics student at the University of Cincinnati), sewing, making homemade gifts, knitting, candy-making, and, of coarse, plain old budgeting. However, the lessons about budgeting and money will be incorporated into the more interesting skills classes.

While our organization is fairly large, the Campbell County Neighborhood Center consists of one paid worker and many volunteers. We have a very small budget that covers our operating expenses and rely on donations to have food and supplies for our families.

We are incredibly excited about the changes in our Center and are optimistic about all the good that they will do in our community. Right now, we are asking for small donations to get this work done.

Donations will be used in the following ways:

- To purchase a greater variety of food for the pantry, including vegetarian, diabetic, whole grain, and organic options.

- To purchase used sewing machines, crock pots, bread makers, and other small appliances for the Practical Budgeting class (ideally, we would raise enough to be able to send folks home with one small appliance per family).

- To purchase supplies such as sewing needles, thread, yarn, knitting needles, fabric, etc for the classes.

- To purchase small items as a “congratulations” for our families, such as movie tickets or tickets to the Newport Aquarium for a family where the parent has reached a substantial goal, such as receiving their GED or reaching one year of steady employment.

- To purchase household items such as laundry detergent, toilet paper, soap, deodorant, etc. These items are not donated very often but are in high demand from our families.

We are a tax-deductible organization and you can receive a receipt for tax purposes. To donate, all you need to do is visit our website (http://www.nkcac.org) . Go to the “donate now” button and make sure to put “Campbell County” in the “designation” line. If you would like to donate to one program in particular, make sure to include that in the designation line as well.

There is certainly no minimum to get involved and every little donation will help us to make these programs the best that they can possibly be.
Workshop Weekend May 23-25

Here's the short of it:

May 23-25
Synctuarie
$10 pre-pay meal-plan (rhellemans2(at)gmail(dot)com) *
$5 at door for workshop

Workshops will be:
LED/Lighting
Yarn/Wool dying
Hoop making and dancing

Also going on:
L3K work (come out if you're going out with L3K team this year)
SN effigy work
Burning Man virgin meet-up

*The meal plan covers meals for Breakfast and Lunch Sat & Sun and dinner on Sat. This is gourmet dining on a dime. Last time we had Pork Centerloin, cold green beans in a blu cheese garlic sauce, green salad with home-made mustard balsamic dressing. This fed about 20+ people for one dinner. We have delicious vegetarian fare as well. And as always, wonderful community member Rebecca purchases and cooks it all up for us. We love her, her cooking, and her generosity.

Scorched Nuts updates

Howdy folks! I'm bringing you news of ways to help out Scorched Nuts by camping with friends and tickets changes and updates.

)*()*()*()*()*()*()*()*()*()*()*()*()*()*()*(

SN Volunteer Work Weekend
May 31-June 1
Hannon's Camp America

As we quickly approach the second year for Scorched Nuts (http://www.scorchednuts.org) we wanted to let you know of a way to benefit the community, the event, and the camping venue. Burners from IN, KY, and OH will be gathering at Hannon's Camp America (the venue for Scorched Nuts) from May 31st to June 1. We'll be camping out (free tent camping, $10 bunk rental if that's your thing), painting signs, digging post holes, building bridges, and ladders into tree houses. This work is mutually beneficial to the community and Hannon's. Come help us foster more community growth and give back. And as always is the case when Burners gather to work, we'll have an amazingly good time.

)*()*()*()*()*()*()*()*()*()*()*()*()*()*()*(

SN Ticket Changes and Updates

Hey folks, we've been looking over our ticket sales deadlines and have decided to make a couple of quick, and beneficial to the procrastinator, revisions. First, the deadline for mail-in orders has been pushed back to May 31st for the postmarked date. If it's postmarked after that you're check or money order will be sent back in the mail and you'll have to purchase your ticket on-line or with a vendor. Secondly, tickets will be on sale on-line and will vendors until June 12th. After that time you can purchase your tickets at the gate. Also, you have until midnight tonight to purchase a ticket for the $30 price, after that until June 12th tickets will be $40. We've also lowered the gate price to $50. All deadlines, unless otherwise noted, are until 11:59pm of the date listed. Also please note that there has been a gate policy change, there will be NO in-and-out passes this year. Be prepared to come and stay. You will not be permitted to leave and come back once you exit the gates. Thank you.

To summerize:

Mail-in postmark Deadline: May 31st for $40 tickets
On-line/Vendor Deadline: June 12th for $40 tickets
$30 Ticket Deadline (on-line only): May 12th
$40 Ticket Deadline: June 12th
$50 Gate Ticket Sales: June 19th during gate hours - June 21st at 5pm
No leaving once you've arrived.

)*()*()*()*()*()*()*()*()*()*()*()*()*()*()*(

Thank you all for your help and your patience. We hope to see you out at Scorched Nuts, or any of the upcoming events, gatherings, work weekend, etc that we have going on through out the year.

As always, be safe, be happy, and have fun.

Workshop Weekend

When - Feb. 1-3
Where - The Grove (Middletown, OH directions upon request)
How Much - $5

There are no invitations really to the Workshop Weekend. You see a posting about one and you decide to come out. It's just that easy. heeheehee

The workshops are normally 'given' at a set time, however, it's also VERY loose and we run on burner time, so it's a lot of 'ish'.

I think that we're just gonna have two workshops this time around. First, it's winter and we're all a little on the tired side. Secondly, I'm sure that we'll be up to MORE than just the two workshops.

Here's the WW line-up:
Saturday - 2to4pm - Herbal/Medicinal Teas & Tinctures
Saturday - 5to7pm - Digeridoo

Friday and Sunday do not have a scheduled workshop, however, that doesn't mean that we don't have fun, don't learn new things, etc.
Remember if you have electronics questions Tim is more than happy to help and if you have hoop questions, I'm more than happy to help. If you have a hoop, I'd suggest bringing it along, hoops are always welcome and fun.

Okay...some necessities:

$5 to cover workshop costs
Sleeping bag
*Air mattress
Food and/or drink to share
Ideas
Questions

You can come up Friday (Feb. 1st) after 5pm. Even though we don't have any workshops scheduled on Friday it looks like we're gonna be having a Fimo Friday Party. So bring along some Fimo (Sculptey, Premo, etc), any tools you have, and make something out of Fimo with us. There tends to be SOMEthing going on the whole weekend, even if it's just sitting around and talking. The conversations are nothing if not entertaining. :D

See you all SOON!

* Indicates a non-necessity, however, you may be want it. There will be a lot more space in which to crash this time, as opposed to NYE, plus the music won't be as loud or going on for as long. So that'll help with the sleeping.

Resonate - Chicago

Looks like our friends and neighbors in Chicago are at it again. Resonate 3.0 - March 29th.

They have almost double the space as last year!

Also at this time they're sending out a call for people interested in helping out with this all volunteer burning community event. WOOT!!! So not only can you mark your calendars for a kick ass party where you'll meet a ton of fantastic fun people, but you can be one of the rockstars that help put it together. How cool is that!

Resonate was invented to bring all the tribes in the midwest together under one roof! And if the past two years are indication, I'd say that they've DONE it.

All the money (every penny) made at Resonate goes straight back to the community into a fund that supports other activities like, Decomp, Town Hall meetings, BRAF, Art grants, etc... and theirr full $ budget is completely transparent, and is sent out in detail to their announce list!
: ) (To sign up for their announce list send a blank e-mail to: chicago-announce-subscribe@burningman.com )

A call out to artists, performers, and volunteers will be made shortly.

TRIAGE: Activist Art Exhibit - Indianapolis

TRIAGE:Activist Art Exhibit: Saturday,6/30,Fountain Square

Hey Everyone,

Thought you might like to know about this. I will have a few things in this exhibit, and I am also one of the Triage planners. Check out this week's issue of NUVO for more info. It's going to be a really cool day of events, featuring activist art, music, poetry, film, and then some. Check it out (and come say 'hi!')

On Saturday, June 30, 2007, Fountain Square will host TRIAGE, an all-ages free indoor/outdoor exhibition of public art in a variety of media: two and three dimensional work, installation, dance, performance art, film, spoken word, and music, all relating to the
interconnected themes of earth, justice and peace. All of the gravest issues our society and environment can be related to this triad of subjects, and this event will bring together a diverse number of very skilled artists.

Over 80 artists, writers and performers will converge on Fountain
Square to deliver their creative and urgent messages on Saturday, June 30, in this free event taking place from 10 am until 6pm. Artists will be spread throughout the Fountain Square area, and a main stage will feature musical acts throughout the day, along with an open drum circle at 3pm and an open mic at 4pm. (It will be moved to the Wheeler Arts building in case of rain.)

Later that evening, Radio Radio will host a benefit concert for the
Hoosier Environmental Council. The evening concert will start at 9pm, and entry is $5.

** Musical acts include: The blackSoil project (pure organic hip-hop), The Sarah Grain Trio (jazz and bossa nova-inspired folk), Men of Many Vices (bluegrass), Kate Lamont (of MabLab/ blueprintmusic), Twilight Sentinels (golden-age hip-hop), Bala vs. Laptop (electronic and African melody), Dance performance by Jaclyn Virgin, Megan Mills and Kevin Wiltz, DJ Spread.

Please check the website www.greentravel.biz/triage
and www.myspace.com/triageindy for updates. Questions, contact: T.J. Reynolds, Triage Coordinator, 317-332-1960 Triageindy@gamail.com .

Hiked today at Portland Arch, south of Attica, Indiana. This is a better hike in the springtime, because it has a number of unusual wildflowers, but the cliffs and the natural arch make it worth a hike anytime of year. The trail is only about a mile long, but winds down through the arch and up the canyon. While in the area, visit the Potholes (Fall Creek Gorge) north of Attica.

NICHES is a group in Northern Indiana working to preserve areas along the Wabash River. They had just posted about a new area they bought along Little Pine Creek, between West Lafayette and Attica, so I went to check it out. It's not posted yet, and there aren't any trails, but we had a nice time hiking along an abandoned road down to the creek. There are still some early spring wildflowers out and the creek looked pretty. This will be a nice area, with a little restoration work, and it's contiguous with two other preserves, each of which has a different character - prairie and hardwood forest. Next time through the area, stop and take a look!
What areas have the rest of you explored lately?

March Presentation Information:

Dear Central Indiana Friends of Jung,

We hope you have had a productive winter. We would like to remind you that our presentations are now at the Unitarian Universalist Church of Indianapolis on the south side of the Butler Campus. The address is 615 W. 43rd St. There is a map and directions on the CIFOJ website. This is the URL for the directions. http://www.cifoj.org/jmeetinglocation.html
Second, this Thursday March 1, 2007 7-9 pm., the Central Indiana Friends of Jung will present the program of Healing the Freud and Jung Split Presented by Felicity Kelsourse, PhD., Associate Professor of Pastoral Care and Counseling, Director of Training for Pastoral Psychotherapy at Christian Theological Seminary.
We will present the third in a series of "Digestible Jung" workshops presented by J. Gary Sparks, Jungian Analyst on Saturday March 10, 2007 from 9:30 am to 3:30 pm. This is about The Self as Synthesis, and will be about the book-Mysterium Coniunctiontis. This interesting and informative workshop on Jung will be held in the same place as the other two previous Digestible Jung workshops have been. This will be free to CIFOJ members. Non-members will cost $40.00 per session. Pre-registration is required. Bring writing materials and a brown bag lunch. Coffee, tea and water provided. For more info please contact: Cathy Guthrie- 317-569-1611
We are offering a CIFOJ canteen at the CIFOJ meeting this Thursday for you to purchase coffee, hot chocolate, water, pop and some kind of snack. The drinks are $1.00 each. This will help the CIFOJ finance future speakers and workshops. The bookstore and canteen are open at 6:30 pm.
Also we are still proposing starting a CIFOJ lending library. We are asking for donations of Jungian themed books, tapes or videos. They can be extras that you find you have or just donations of books you have read and no longer need. This lending library can be used by the paid members of the CIFOJ. Any donations of books. tapes or videos can be brought to any meeting. The subject matter can be anything that Jung may have written, or discussed or anything that anyone else may have written about him, his interests or his writings.

Presentations are held at the Universalist Unitarian Church of Indianapolis at 615 West 43rd St. from 7:00-9:00 PM. Again the directions are to be found at http://www.cifoj.org/jmeetinglocation.html
The cost is $8, or free for members. A reminder that full time students with ID are admitted free to the meetings.
Sincerely,
The Central Indiana Friends of Jung Board

Muncie Gras - Feb. 17th

Okay, since the downtown development team don't seem to understand what a website is best used for (ie putting up useful information of what is going on...prices, activities, etc) I won't be giving you all a link. However, here in Muncie, IN on Feb. 17th we will be having our annual (4th? 5th?) Muncie Gras celebration. Last year I believe it was $10. There are two outdoor stages, one large one small. Walnut street in downtown Muncie is cordened off for about 3 to 4 blocks. There are vendors selling drinks, baubles, food, and more. There's normally even a mechanical bull.

I'm not sure about arrangements at this point in time. While I live in a house LARGE enough to house 20+ people semi-comfortably, that may not be an option. My friend Spencer will have some room, but it's limited and going fast, so a hotel room may be in order.....and conviently there is one downtown ( http://travel.yahoo.com/p-hotel-328554-radisson_hotel_roberts-i ) that I would suggest for an easy get-away. If enough out of towners show an interest in getting a suite that may be something that we can arrange for, and it would be kind of fun.....at least for all us single folk.

Also, if you are a performer and are planning on coming, let me know. The Fickle Peach, a local bar....my fav....especially since I know the owners pretty damned well and drink there whenever I'm out.......have a booth this year and would like performers (fire/glow/etc) to perform by their booth. This would mean free admittance, some free drinks (beers), and a way to share your talent with the folks of Muncie. Just let me know what you'll need (safety/space), if you'll be doing fire or glow, etc. I'll be doing my LED hoop, if all goes well. I still have to practice a bit more before it's there there there.

So....this is closer, is NOT burner oriented, but that normally doesn't stop me from making it out to it, and it's just another way to hang and have fun with some great people. So there's the info....as much as I know. I would love to see some of you out.

This weekend!!! SynchroniCity presentsThe4thAnnual X

> > Attention!!!
> >
> > Burners, fire spinners, freaks, artists,
> > lovers/loathers of Christmas, pyros and miscreants...
> >
> >
> > Each year during these bleak winter months, we gather
> > up two or three hundred discarded X-Mass Trees, build
> > an evergreen sculpture, crack open kegs and light a
> > huge-ass fire.
> >
> > Friends gather, jackassery ensues, fire happens,
> > people feel ways about stuff, and the catharsis keeps
> > us all giddy and warm for the rest of winter.
> >
> > Want to join us for the tree flambe?
> >
> > It's free, awesome and we've been gathering trees
> > since Xmas. Come on down.
> >
> > When:
> >
> > This Saturday, January 27th, 2007
> > Sundown - Approx. 2:00 A.M.
> > @ the Wildlife Refuge
> > in Kansasville, WI
> >
> >
> > Where:
> >
> > An hour's drive from Chicago, just north of the
> > Wisconsin border.
> >
> > HOW CAN YOU HELP?
> > If you or anyone you know has an X-mas tree they wish
> > to torch, bring it.
> >
> > We are also putting out an APB for fire spinners.
> > Your poi will enhance everyone's experience. Please
> > feel free to bring it!
> >

InterFuse - Booneville, Missouri
May 3-6 (Thurs-Sun)
http://www.midwestburners.com

So, here's the deal, right now there are three definite camp members and one maybe. Not a lot of people, but there's still time to plot and plan. So, this year we're working on a camp that will consist of a double dome design (one dome for the public and one for our private camp use with a fire barrell....which would heat the public dome during the evening), a stage for performances of any kind (if you want to contribute a poem, a dance, a play, etc....do, do, do it), and at least one effigy contribution (we're workin' on designs and procession plans at this time). Now, if you're wanting/planning/hoping to go and would like to camp with others from the upper midwest/great lakes area, just let me know. Also, if you want to contribute to any of the above projects, again, let me know....same with questions, comments, and critiques. Oh....and if you want to stay with us, but aren't able to be there the whole time....don't worry one bit about it...we'll make sure that you have a space to call your own.

The planning has begun!

Subject: CALL FOR ARTISTS AND PERFOMERS OF ALL VARITIES
Sent: Wednesday, October 18, 2006 4:38 PM
Eden Staff and Promotions is a non-profit organization who seeks to support local community charities with an emphasis on GLBT groups, and youth programs. Last year our first event was held called EDEN: Celebrating Life and Diversity at Talbott Street on 3/29/06. The event featured fire dancers, acrobatics, a decor theme, and three dj's (trance, industrial, house).

The EDEN event is fusion of art, culture, and music. The point of EDEN is to draw in Indianapolis' alt communities for a night of celebration.

We are seeking performers who would like to be apart of next years (07) event, as well as potential sponsors. If interested please write: eden.in.indy@gmail.com.
Celebrate the explosion of art that occurred during the 1920's while heralding in the new golden age of art in Detroit!

Although each individual component of the Roaring 20's Masquerade Ball would make for a fun evening out on the town, it's the grandness of this event that sets it apart from all others. The Roaring 20's Masquerade Ball is a Sound & Vision Musical that tells the tale of Nick Fudrich, a Detroit River dock worker during the prohibition era. As with the finest fashion collections, several common threads are used to tie together the individual components of this production: Music, fashion and staging inspired by the 1920's. Actors to give the event its grounding. And a bold narrator.

I was amazed to see that there was a tribe for the tri-state... I didn't know if anyone in the midwest beside myself had hopped on the tribe wagon. This is great. Well, I hope we will be able to share information for events in the area and post stuff that we can all be involved in, like the real cities do...

To start: Who likes wine? I know of a couple of great wine clubs in the area.

If you guys know of events that are coming up, and are public of course, please share with the rest. I had no idea the 4H fair came and went until the last day... so that kind of thing. Make sense.

I look forward to your input.

For those who live near Evansville or northwest Kentucky, the new I-69 that is supposed to be built in a few years may bring more jobs and business. The downside is, there could be a lot of beautiful southern Indiana farmland lost in the construction. What does the tribe think?

Personally, I would like to get a job in the Tri-State area someday, and I-69 could help economic development; but the reason I love the area is the unspoiled rural beauty. I remember going with my family through So. Ind. in the fall, buying apple cider from road side stands; touring New Harmaony, visiting St. Meinrad, or just driving Highway 66 along the river. I'd hate to see that aspect of Southern Indiana lost.

But that was all a really long time ago. I live in SF at the moment, and will be moving to the Carribean in a few weeks.
